Back home, safe and sound

I’m home from my recent trip north to visit my sister and her family. We had a nice time making paper craft tags and packaging for my Etsy shop. My sister is VERY good at things like this, so I was very grateful for the help. My ideas flourish in fluffy fibers, while her’s do so in paper, paint and do-dads.

I also had a lot of time for knitting, so I made another Autumn Leaves Baby Sweater in Mary Maxim DK….

The Heart on a String Cowl in Dream in Color Classy….

and a slouch hat that my sister wanted.

We went out for a day to Carlo’s Bakery in Ridgewood, NJ (I am a big fan of the show) and we met Marissa (a previous winner of the Next Great Baker) and she was nice enough to pose for a photo.

And we ate and sipped delicious things…

After having some scrumptious treats at Carlos Bakery, we stopped at the LYS Close Knit where I found a skein of yarn that seemed Halloween in flavor so I could make myself something for the season. I’m leaning toward a lacy scarf. Maybe I could wear whatever I make while having a pumpkin spiced latte.

On the last day – this bear walked through the yard after having a snack on the side of the house in the trash cans. Now, people keep telling me their bears are bigger. For you one-uppers, I say this, “It’s not the size of the bear – It’s the mood he’s in.”

Oh, and speaking of pumpkin spice lattes, I made so many while I was up there. Well, that’s what Aunts do – right? Become a personal Starbucks barista for her lovely nieces, their boyfriends and a few visiting friends. No matter how many I made at each brew, I managed to score one for myself.

Here is how I make pumpkin spiced lattes in the coffee maker:

  • Measure your coffee and water as usual
  • Add a 1/2 tsp of ‘pumpkin pie spice’ for every scoop of coffee you’re making
  • Brew
  • Add a touch of milk and your sweetener of choice
  • Top with Ready Whip (my favorite)
  • Sprinkle on top with the spice again.

Mine looks like this, but you could get quite fancy in your delivery:
